The Society's annual fun-raising (sic!) awards and raffle presents a series of Awards to those individual and groups who have made special contributions to the Society and its work throughout the preceding year.
May 4, 2002 - Annual "New Songwriters" Series, produced by Sandi Durell
"The New Songwriter Sampler" - A hit with the Membership on its debut last spring, producer Sandi Durell's now-annual program of new songwriters proves that with one foot in the past but an eye to the future, the Society is dedicated to finding and presenting the new voices in songwriting today.
April 6, 2002 - "Dealers' Choice..."Putting the Sheet Back in the Music with Sandy Marrone and Donald Stubblebine
"The Collectors Gather" - Putting the Sheet back in the Music, Sandy Marrone and Don Stubblebine, enlightened members on the art of sheet music collecting. There was a star-spangled presentation from Sandy on old time Patriotic Sheet Music that will made our American hearts swell. And, Don discussed his brand new book, "Early Broadway Sheet Music, 1843-1918, which is a valuable reference for collectors, musicians, and historians.
March 2, 2002 - "With, or Without a Song" The Life and Music of Edward Eliscu with Co-Hosts: David Eliscu, John Meyer, and Gary Stevens
"Without a Song" - Film ("Flying Down to Rio") and Broadway ("More Than You Know") composer Edward Eliscu was profiled by his son, David, who has published a new biography. Charles Cermele and Leila (Phantom of the Opera) Martin performed Eliscu's songs.
February 2, 2002 - "Songs of Mickey Leonard" with Mickey Leonard, Barbara Brussell, John Meyer, and special guests Karen Oberlin, Ellen Bullinger, Jane Scheckter, and Janet Fanale
"Songs of Mickey Leonard" - Popular cabaret singer Barbara Brussell brought her tribute to Broadway composer Mickey Leonard ("The Yearling") to the Society. Mr. Leonard and others were on hand to perform and discuss his work.
January 5, 2002 - John Meyer hosts the January Meeting - William Zinsser, with his wonderful book: "Easy to Remember"
"Easy to Remember: the Great American Songwriters & their Songs" - former editor of the New York Herald Tribune Entertainment Section, William Zinsser, discussed his much-acclaimed new book.
